Hey everyone! As a part of the Samsung Youth Editor Contest we will be holding a Space Technology Symposium!

You can come and view our current project along with previous ones. There will be several displays showcasing how space technology affects our everyday lives and how important the development of space technology, and the space industry is.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to talk to team members if you are interested in joining the team and working on the design of a lunar excavator.

USST Part of Samsung Youth Editors Top 17

The USST was recently accepted into Samsung Canada’s Youth Editors 2013 Top 17. Through this we received a Samsung Smart PC ATIV Pro, along with some other merchandise and financial support. Lunar Excavator

The team has begun working on its newest project, the design and construction of a lunar excavator. The goal of this project is to design a robot that can be remotely controlled, or autonomously operate on its own to excavate (pick up) the sediment on the lunar surface. This robot is called a lunabot. The team hopes to, and is planning on participating in the annual NASA Lunabotics Mining Competition.

Experiential Learning Expo

We are very happy to announce that the USST will be taking part in this year’s Experiential Learning Expo! This is an on-campus event which promotes the different ways in which students are able to apply the skills they learn in class — and what better example of this than the USST?

Our teammates will be at the expo (located in Upper Place Riel) from 10am-3pm this Thursday, March 15.

If you’re interested in taking an up close and personal look at the prototype of our nanosatellite, stop by our booth!

Critical Design Review

Our teammates have returned from the critical design review in Ottawa! They successfully presented the design of the USST’s nanosatellite to a panel of judges at the Canadian Space Agency for the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge. Our team has received the results from this exciting venture and are looking forward to sharing them with the public over the course of the next week. The press release can be seen here.
