Mars Rover

THE PROJECT

After the Lunarbotics competition finished in 2013, the team looked for a new project, and found the University Rover Challenge held by the Mars Research Society. We have since been involved in other Mars Rover challenges, including competitions held in Poland and Canada. The competitions each have various tasks and guidelines, but all have a focus on traversing rough terrain similar to what will be found on Mars, performing science tasks related to finding signs of life, and performing fine-handling tasks, all from a remote base station. The team is currently on their fourth generation rover, named the Barnstormer.

HISTORY

The team traveled to Utah for the University Rover Challenge in 2014, 2015, and 2016, taking first Canadian team and seventh overall in 2014 and 2015. In 2015 we traveled to Swietokrzyskie, Poland for ERC, and were very proud to take first overall. In 2017 the Canadian International Rover Challenge was created with the help of the University Rover challenge committee, leading to the first annual CIRC competition in Drumheller, Alberta in July. The team will be participating in URC and CIRC in 2018.
