CSDC Critical Design Review

After our team returned from the critical design review in Ottawa, several media outlets were interested in hearing the results of this exciting venture. You can seen some of the following interviews and articles.

Press Conference

On February 16, 2012, our team held a press conference to announce our collaboration with the United States Naval Research Laboratory, reveal our satellite prototype, and send off members of our team to Ottawa. The official release can be seen here. Below is a list of the media coverage which we received from this event.

On the morning of January 27, 2012, the team president (Aarya Shahsavar) had an interview on the Brent Loucks show. During the interview, they discussed independent space projects and the USST.

On January 19, 2012, the University of Saskatchewan students’ newspaper The Sheaf published an article about the USST. Nationwide Print, Radio, and Television Coverage

Our article in the Star Phoenix on August 24, 2011 was picked up by both the Montreal Gazette and the Regina Leader Post. It further stirred up media attention with radio interviews on CBC Radio’s Blue Sky and News Talk 650 CKOM Saskatoon/News Talk 980 CJME Regina. Thanks to that same article, the USST was also featured in a TV spot on CTV Saskatoon local news, and CBC News: Saskatchewan.

Star Phoenix

Front Page Article

On August 24, 2011, the Star Phoenix featured the USST in a front page article. The article, titled “Small Satellite, Big Dreams” detailed our plans of launching a nanosatellite into Earth’s orbit by late 2012.

The Sky is Not the Limit

In 2009, there was a documentary created about the USST titled The Sky is Not the Limit. The film provided a truly interesting and honest glimpse into the inner workings of the USST as it followed us on our tumultuous journey to compete in the 2009 NASA competition held in California. This two-part documentary airs regularly on SCN as part of their Mindfield series.

The following are two brief trailers for the documentary.

Space Elevator
